Thereās few moments in life where you feel like you checked off a major milestone. It can be personal, professional, or just something that landed on you - and thatās pretty much what happened to me this month - Apple invited me up to their London office to be a part of the M3 MacBook Air launch! Iāve spoken enough about this on my socials so I wonāt go into detail again but I wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage you to do something you love.
I never thought Iād be able to do YouTube full time, and I never ever thought Iād get to work directly with Apple. But it happened, and it happened because I spent my lunch breaks learning to film, it happened because I spent weekends editing, it happened because I found it fun and I couldnāt get enough of it. It feels somewhat easy to be in this position now and to tell you to find something you want to do but I wasnāt at the start. I disliked my job massively and making videos was a fun escape. Itās taken time and consistency for that to pay off, but if thereās one thing Iāve really learned from the entire process its this : You owe it to yourself to work on something you love.
If you watch any of my videos this year, make sure itās this one. Iām really proud of how we managed to document the event. Props to sam (@sambvideo) for his filmmaking skills, I think this is the best video weāve made together.
Whatās new with Kiroku?
Other than our wonderful office space getting remade at the Apple HQ? Well, we donāt have loads to show you right now and thatās my fault. Rachel (@egg.gaphics) has been super busy redesigning Byte Review! I literally have new everything - logo, business cards, website, YouTube banner, video backgrounds, digital stickers, and more! Iāve felt for a long time the Byte Review brand didnāt quite line up how I wanted it to and Rachel had some awesome ideas of how to make it better, so we went for it. Honestly, I couldnāt be happier with the results, we might have some little bits of merch coming soon too š
Creator Spotlight
š¹ Jamesturner_42 - Itāll probably only take one look at this account to see why I like it so much. Super cute game artwork from the previous Art Director for Pokemon (woah). I wish he had a store, I know Iād end up with lots of this on the wall!
š maciejdrabik_art - Ugh, I love this account. Itās cyberpunk, lofi, and surrealism all wrapped up in small beautiful animations. Iād kill to see a modern game take on this style and run with it.
š arts.of.win - Really beautiful pixel art and animations with a super distinct orange and off-white colour palette. It reminds me of looking at Japanese imported video game boxes as a kid and wondering what they could be about!
I didnāt mean to leave the newsletter this long without an update! The Apple event and everything that surrounded it took up a huge amount of my time and headspace - we wanted to get that video just right! I think it all paid off. More newsletters soon, promise!
