The Free Wallpaper Issue ☀️
And some iPhone 15 Pro Max camera thoughts...
A couple of weeks ago I went to London for a day trip to see one of my favourite bands, blink 182. It was awesome, they were awesome, and obviously I took my iPhone 15 Pro Max and gave the camera a proper test. Here’s some initial thoughts :
It’s way faster at taking pro raw photos which is so useful when you need to be quick.
5x zoom let’s you get shots that weren’t possible before.
Choosing an initial focal length is cool, it let’s you customise the camera to your liking which is long overdue.
Pro-Res Log is awesome, but most people should stay away from it as it’ll eat your storage and needs colour grading after.
3x zoom is actually worse than last year (on the Pro Max models) as the 5x zoom ‘replaces’ it, which I don’t like.
I showed off a bunch of photos in my Instagram post but my favourite was this one of Chinatown, which was only possible thanks to that new 5x zoom :
Overall I think it’s a neat update but it feels very similar to last years 14 Pro Max, so I wouldn’t jump to upgrade if you’re on a 13 or a 14 for the camera upgrade, personally.
What’s new with Kiroku?
In case you didn’t see (which is impossible if you follow me on social media) we released a new wallpaper pack over the last few days called BOUND. We’re super happy with it, and had a lot of fun coming up with the naming scheme - they’re all fictional planets that we’ve visited through various games and films. The colours of those planets inspired the swirling effects you see reflected in these wallpapers.
During the design process there was one we loved but it felt out of place with the others however we didn’t want to put it in the digital scrapheap, so for all you newsletter readers - you can click here to download it!
Creator Spotlight
🍙 Paiheme Studio - I can’t believe I’ve gotten this far into the newsletter and not mentioned Paiheme Studio. One of my favourite accounts who embodies the Japanese design aesthetic that we love here at Kiroku Studio, you’ve probably seen lots of prints on our walls.
🍡 maxprentisvisual - Max is an illustrator that has some of the best character design out there, I love the use of colours and the story each illustration tells. It’s really awesome, it makes me wish I could draw!
⌚️ Maurice Moves - I found Maurice’s YouTube channel relatively recently after going down an EDC rabbit hole and now I watch every upload! Maurice blends EDC content with travel advice, and throws in some insight to his multiples businesses too.
🪐 A huge thanks if you’ve picked up the new wallpapers, it really means a lot! Also, I’d love to know if you can figure out what game or film the planets from the BOUND wallpaper pack are from, let me know in the comments below if you do!
